We are tentatively planning a trip to The Iberostar in Cozemel, primarily to snorkel. But we would also are considering a diversion to the Mayan ruins, or a separate trip. We have heard that there are bugs at the ruins. Duh... it's in the jungle. Thus far, bugs have not been a problem where we have gone.
We do not wish to go where bugs are a problem, as my wife is susecptible to bug bites, and seems to attract them from all corners. Please gives us your tales of woe, and insights as to where they have been a non issue. This is very important to us in our trip lanning.

spent a day in Tulum last year had no problem with and insects. Maybe Inland on the Yucatan is different as Tulum is right on that beautiful beach.

Have been to Cozumel & the Riviera Maya area 3 times in the last few years & have never had a problem with bugs biting us. We've always gone in Jan. & Feb., and explored the surrounding areas and were fine.

I went to Chichen Itza a few years ago and had no problems at all and I am prone to mosquitos.
Go to the camping department in most stores and find the Off repellent with high levels of DEET. Some are as I remeber 94% DEET, but there is a small bottle that is 100%.
Worked great for us in the rainforest in St. Lucia!

I attract bugs like the plague, but the only things that attacked me in Cozumel were a bunch of little jellyfish while I was snorkeling. I finally had to get out. My husband was right next to me and they never stung him.
