Where are the best places in the Caribbean to see, experience, learn about volcanoes?

Costa Rica is the best. 2 active volcanoes that you can visit.

Dominica has the most volcanoes in the eastern Caribbean (12). It's a seismologist's heaven. I work for CT&L and cover Dominica. It's one of the most beautiful islands I've ever visited. There'll be a photo feature on it in the May issue of CT&L.

Montserrat has an active volcano. You can stay on Antigua and take a day trip over. Although, its been very active lately so it might not be a good time to visit now. If you email the Observatory in Montserrat, they will be happy to give you more information.

Martinique as the most famous volcano in the Caribbean : Mount Pelee.
There is now in Saint Pierre a new center where you can learn anything about vocanoes, and of course the small museum Franck perret.
You can climb on the Mount Pelee.

Martinique is great historically with Mt. Pelee and you can stay locally to the mountain. The museum there is really well done and items there and in the area from the historic eruption are great. Dominica has a wonderful volcano where you can get pretty close to the heat and sulfur, but it can be quite a hike to get to where the action is. There are other reslts of the volcano, gorges and hot springs to enjoy there as well. Montserrat is supposed to be great, particularly from the scientific end of things as the other comment mentions. The nice thing about these, are that they are all close to the beaches and Caribbean lifestyle you may enjoy in the evening. Costa Rica's volcanoes, though large and great to view, are primarily inland and away from the sea by some distance.

Having been to Dominica I agree with Jane. What an incredible experience we had there! I am looking forward to the May issue.
