My husband and I are visiting St. Lucia for the first time, would love to hear recent trip reports and tips. Hoping to tour on the Brig Unicorn, any other excusions favorites would be helpful. We'll be staying near Castries.

My husband and I went to St. Lucia in February and LOVED IT. I actually am wishing that I was there right now. We stayed in Choc Bay, which is right outside of Castries, and it was gorgeous. There is so much to do and see, the people are friendly, and the scenery is breathtaking. I hope that you have a great time!

A few things great in St Lucia: the beach by the Royal St Lucian on the northern end of the island is soft sandy sweetness and there's snacks (ice cream) by the beach. The market day is Saturday and you should go to Castries that morning for the color, spice and shopping for bargains (haggle a little). The Pitons are worth a day trip to visit and lastly, Bagwell's has wonderful batik items made on the premises.

I would say an excursion to the rainforest is a must. There are several to choose from.
You can even combine the rainforest with a trip to the Pitons.
The island is beautiful, a must see and explore.

Just by chance, the current (April 2004) issue of Caribbean Travel & Life, page 23 is all about the beach I mentioned at Rodney Bay, St. Lucia.

My husband and I visited St. Lucia in 2001. What an incredibly beautiful place. Definity go to the open air markets in Castries and go horseback riding on a beach. Take a casual stroll through Pigeon Island State Park. We throughly enjoyed everything about St. Lucia and the people are the friendlist.
