Aruba to Venezuela

I am going to Aruba in May 2004 and was told that can take a Ferry trip for the day to Venezuela? Is this correct and is it recommended? Please any information would be helpful.

I asked the same question on another board and got lots of good info. Bottom line everyone said DO NOT GO. Too dangerous. State Department warns americans to stay away because of crime, kiddnappings, and anti american feelings there.
