Sand Fleas

I'm planning a trip to Cozumel in August. Talked with a couple who had been there earlier this year and experienced what they called "Sand Fleas" in their room Any comments or suggestions for avoiding the urge to scratch?!

Hi Toni, we were in Cancun twice since January and had no probs with sand fleas. We were on another island once where I did experience this problem on the beach, and being that I am allergic to anything that bites or stings, I had a heck of a time. I bought this "gel" made by BandAid, and it is for bites (among other things) and it works really, really well. Often I just apply it once, but once in a while I do have to apply it for a couple of days, but the itching is gone and the bites are reduced to quite a small size. I am very allergic to mosquito bites, and when I do get bitten, even before scratching, I swell really badly and they look terrible, but this BandAid clear gel works wonders at reducing the bites too, and since it is clear, it doesn't show up or stain anything.
Enjoy Cozumel. I have never been, but I could go on and on about how wonderful Cancun is and how friendly and warm the Mexican people were to us!
