Does anyone have any tips on good places to stay in Dominica? We're going in late November. We need someplace on or very near a beach (less than a mile) and with a kitchen or kitchenette. Thanks in advance for your help.

There are a couple of great hotels on Dominica, the Beau Rive and Calabishie being two of the best, but, neither offers a kitchenette and on the beach isn't an option with these. My suggestion, is to stay at a guest cottage or apartment. Never having stayed in these there, I can't recommend one over the other, but perhaps someone else can. There's a listing of possibilities at the official Dominica travel site, http://www.dominica.dm/cottages.htm . Enjoy one of the most lush of the Caribbean Islands and try to visit Trafalgar Falls and Titou gorge if you are able for the ultimate island waterfall treat. No sign of twenty groups of 50 people holding hands here. Serene natural beauty is what you get.

I thought Pappiollote looked stunning, had lunch there and hiked around. I stayed at the Fort Young which was excellent but a very modern hotel. This was nice after a few monthes of roughing it. The restaurant was dynamite.
