I am a subscriber to your magazine and have been for many years. I was extremely disappointed with the recent editorial by Mr. Friel regarding global warming and his childish attack on the Senator. Regardless of your views on global warming, I expect you to respect those who have valid disagreements and view points. I don't expect or appreciate angry and insulting responses.

I am a nature lover and that is one of the main reasons I enjoy the magazine. However, instead of just going along with the mass think on the issue, I did some research and found that if global warming exists at all, it is wholly attributable to natural processes, and humans couldn't influence it if we tried. After all, there is no doubt that the Earth's climate has been changing back and forth for over 4.5 billion years and to expect that it will never change again is ridiculous. I am an attorney and would be happy to discuss the issue with you if you so desire. I think in about one hour, I could convince you that humans have absolutely nothing to do with global warming.

Fortunately, that should be good news for you and your magazine since your sponsors desperately depend on air travel, and since you utilize quite a bit of paper in producing your magazine.

Here are just a few points to consider before you angrily respond to those of us who disagree with your apparent view point:

1. One typical volcanic eruption releases more green house gases than the total of all such gases released by humans in the history of humanity combined. As you know, there are several eruptions every year.

2. The major factors influencing global temperature are precipitation and ocean currents, not gases.

3. Water vapor, not gases, accounts for 90 and 95% of the Earth's warming effect. This makes the amount of CO2 released by humans basically irrelevant to global temperature. Imagine a bird farting in a hurricane.

4. Assuming global warming is occurring, it would cause increased plant growth, which in turn would use up more CO2.

5. The Earth has been warming and cooling for billions of years without humans even being around. What makes you think we are causing it this time?

6. There is no question that anti-capitalism and anti-American groups are attempting to utilize global warming to push their political agendas.

7. Advocates of man-made global warming embrace their beliefs as a religion, angrily lashing out at anyone who disagrees with them.

8. Record cold and warm temperatures occur every year (including this one), but lately we only hear about the warm temps because it helps push a political agenda and the global warming hype.

Finally, if you really want to address the issue in the magazine, I would suggest that you give equal time to scientists on each side of the issue and let people decide. To have an author with no scientific background and erroneous preconceptions pontificate on the issue is not acceptable.

Doctor Bob has grossly overlooked the facts to state his politically correct opinion and called us all Ostriches at the same time.

Since I can't trust him for the facts on global warming, I probably can't trust him for the facts on the Caribbean either. I'll spend my money on Fodor's or Lonely Planet. They might not get all their facts straight but I can't remember them calling dissenters Butt Ostriches either.

My money goes elsewhere. That is an undisputable fact.
