Our 6th trip to Cap Juluca and paradise started off without a hitch.. AA
from JFK-to SXM and then the CJ private boat picked us up and got us nice
and tipsy with the best Rim Punch on the short boat ride t blowing point-
luggage was there and a quick taxi to CJ.
They checked us in to Villa 5 room 6 - which is a luxury room - no upgrades
available upon check in. The room was quite lovely and all was well until
after dinner at Kemia - then my husband wanted to go to sleep and the
Wedding Party at Georges brought in a disco band or Boom boxes that seemed
like they were right in our room- this was unusually loud as we have been in
Villa 5 before and never have been bothered by music from Georges before.
We did a lot of complaining- my husband was so exhausted after traveling the
day before our trip from work that he was furious. The next day we met with
the reservations manager and she was so apologetic and nice and moved us
into an amazing Junior suite with a roof-top solarium and separate 2 person
tub- Villa 12 room 5. And to our great surprise my favorite friend and best
bartender on the beach- Fiona was stationed at Villa 12- it was heaven.
The next day we decided to try Smokeys for the first time and walk there
from CJ- it took us about 45 minutes with the strongest wind blowing in our
faces- but it was worth ot just for the best ribs we have ever had. We took
a cab back- too tired to walk back
That night Sunday- Hibernia- also for the first time. We took Jerry- our
trusted driver that we use every year - about a 25 min cab ride.
HIBERNIA was AMAZING... we looked in the Art Gallery first and fell in love
with a painting and a little sculpture and Mary Pat was kind enough to move
the painting near our dinner table so we could look at it throughout our
meal to really decide if we would buy it. (I asked her to do that and she
was so nice to oblige) We did buy it and she is shipping it to us today.
We also bought the little wooden sculpture and an buffalo bone carved opium
pipe for our friend who collect them.
Oh- the food.. We started with the smoked fish and then a crayfish noodle
caseraule with thai sauce that was fantastic. My husband had the snapper -
which he said was the best he ever has had. We will be back there next time
for sure
Monday- Georges for lunch- the most amazing Crayfish and frozen concoction
MANGOS- for dinner. We love Dave and sat at the bar with him for drinks
before dinner. I started with mussels which were great and my husband had
Tuna Tatar- great again. We both had a Tuna steak for dinner that was
excellent- Dave picked out a nice bottle of wine for us and we were all
happy
Tuesday- Cuisinart for lunch during the heaviest rain I have ever seen on
the Island- but lunch was great - we started with a salad of tomatoes an
mozzarella and lettuce that was to die for as it was all grown fresh there.
Paniani and Pizzas followed and 2 frozen Mojitios for each of us -then the
sun came out.
VEYA- for dinner-. Oh my goodness- the best meal we had.. and Jerry the
owner - asked if I was Gigi from the Anguilla forum-- I was so impressed and
my huband finally did not make fun of me or roll his eyes as the forum as
mentioned. Jerry told us that that was another Forum member sitting a few
tables away-It was Norway!!!!! I walked over and we finally met and her
sweet husband too! It was so nice to meet in person after so many years of
posting. Also heard from Jerry that Pepper had been in the week before and
saw her greeting in the guest book. How great was this night!
We started with Shrimp Cigars- amazing and then I had Crayfish again-
fantastic- hubby had Grouper- we had an amazing bottle of Brunello that
Jerry picked out then Carrie came out and we talked and talked - what an
amazing couple - and restaurant. FYI- make your reservations here - as it
was the only restaurant we went to that did not have an empty table. Bravo
for Veya.
Wednesday- I took myself to BANANNAS BY THE SEA- as my hubby wanted to stay
on the beach. I met Bob the owner and he made me the best Mango Bannana Rum
drink. I had the best goat cheese salad and the famous crayfish and lobster
crepe- this is my new favorite lunch place great view- and great service and
great food. Would like to try it for dinner too.
Thursday - last day so Fiona did an amazing thing and got someone to go to
Smokeys for us and delivered their amazing ribs to our beach chairs. Wow-
what a great last lunch on the beach at CJ. Gotcha picked us up for our
trip to SXM and I slept the whole way home just in time to come back to a
sick 7 year old and a snow storm in CT. I have a bit more to tell you all
about CJ- but my daughter is home sick still and she is hungry!! I will
continue.
