Well, it's been awhile, but the corksters back. Summer is just about over, kids are getting ready to go back to school, but i wanted to take a few minutes and report on our trip to tortola this past june. We stayed at villa, casa de miel, 4bdr full a/c (one of the few)overlooking cane garden bay,on the northshore. And wow, what a view, the sunsets at night were spectacular, the twinkling lights of
st.thomas in the distance, and the sweeping curve of CGB, made for one stunning location. CGB, is one of the loveliest beaches on tortola, and smugglers cove is right there at the top, just a few miles away. Tortola is
what i picture st.thomas 20 yrs ago. (food) Myetts Garden, and all of the little beach bars, serve some great food, and the dress code is anything, as long as it involves tee-shirts, shorts, and flip flops. Bananakeet, just 10 mins up the road from CGB, has some of the best food on the island, and offers some of the best sunsets, and sits right over the water.
Day one: SMUGGLERS COVE, worth the drive 4WD, recommended. Beach bar right on the beach serves cold beer, hotdogs, hamburgers, BBQ chicken, and some of the best pina coladas. Not sure why these are called the bvi, food is definitely american. great day! crystal clear water, good snorkling beach to.
Day two:rented a powerboat, and captained myself, over to sandy caye, and sandy spit, and chilled at white bay, on jost van dyke. This is the one you dream about. Painkillers at the soggydollar bar are killer, no pun intended.
Day three: The baths, virgin gorda. took the fast ferry out of roadtown $30.00 roundtrip, including the taxi to and from the baths.
Day four: LONG BAY, TORTOLA- one of the nicest and longest beaches on the island, and restaurant on the beach. Northshore, beach close to bomba shack, home of the full moon parties. Not sure what all the hype is, it's a shack made of driftwood.
Day five: shopping in roadtowns, nice little back street of shops, and lunch at pussers, west end. PUSSERS is a good place to eat and neat shops in pastel buildings. Pussers is a 350 yr old rum, commissioned by the british royal navy, and you may have seen in a recent issue of caribbeen travel mag, that did very well in some contest of the best rums of the islands.
Days six: Rented the boat again, and made stops at the caves, off norman island, had lunch at a great beach restaurant by the willy t thornton, which is a old schooner, docked in the cove there. Willy T. is noted for it's drinks and anything goes after dark crowd. Almost forgot, great snorkling at the indians, next door to st.john and norman island. Excellant snorkling
Day seven: Reality check. Back to the grind. Bringing home nothing but memories, and waiting for next year to roll around.
yeah mon!
as Mark always says
