Hi there! Any suggestions for good Caribbean snorkeling spots to take an 8 and 9 year old? I would love to find a program where they could learn about what they are seeing as they snorkel. Snorkeling access from the beach versus a boat would be ideal. Our trip would be in either February or April. Any suggestions on where to stay is appreciated as well. Thanks for the help!

I would suggest Beaches Turks & Caicos. The snorkeling is great in T&C and Beaches has lots of kids programs. The resort is on an incredible stretch of beach and you can snorkel right off the beach or via boat.

Cant say how much relieved I am on encountering this post, let me make it clear for you friends. For our honeymoon we opted for the Caribbean as our destination and it has been more than ten years we went there. My wife has been persuading me to go there since the last few weeks but I was not so excited thinking about the kid we have. I was of the belief he would simply get bored there having nothing to do. Now that I learned this I am sure this would bring back the smiles on my wife's face and I can chalk out a program some time. :)

Thanks for the responses. My husband and I were in T&C a year ago for my 40th birthday and checked out Beaches on our way to snorkel. It looked great for families. I've been checking the prices there - yikes! I'll keep watching. Thanks!

We've snorkeled off the beaches of Virgin Gorda with our two kids (8 and 11) and find them amazing . . . we even saw an octopus! Snorkeling at the Baths is cool because of the huge rock formations and off Savannah Bay, Nail Bay and Mahoe Bay there are reefs in easy swimming distance.

East end of Grand Cayman, Reef Resort ! Outstanding ! directly off the beach.
Virgin Gorda & Turks are good but Reef Resort much, much better.
Seven mile beach - West end of GC also has good spots right off beach.
Sting Ray city is a must see, but requires boat trip.
See (www.caymanislands.ky) tourism site for details on everything on
Cayman Islands. Reef resort is a great place to stay ; although quiet .

have fun,Feegie.

Hey KC!
Glad to see the forum is coming alive again. Don't take this as a challenge, just a point or question. The beaches in T&C are amazing miles of sand. Some of the best. But, as you say, the snorkeling is offshore from a boat. That can be a handul for kids and those with them. It means deeper water and the need to swim better. I'm just wondering if shoreline reefs aren't a better choice, and with kids, any reef can be exciting.
Feel free to correct me, but you won't win a swizzle if I'm wrong.
