I'm trying to plan a honeymoon for the beginning of August. While Tahiti is appealing, I just can't afford it. So, back to the caribbean.

What islands/locations offer the best weather at this time of year? Least humid, no hurricanes etc...

Any help is much appreciated.

Any island at this time is fine. Hurricane season is from Sept - Nov. All the islands have great weather at this time. Have fun.
Any ???'s just ask.

I'd heard that Aruba, Curacao and Bonaire were the only places it was "safe" to go from a weather perspective to avoid tropical storms, weeks of rain etc....you can probably tell I'm a rookie at this sort of thing.

If we're OK for weather, does anyone have any suggestion for "stays of distinction" that offer an all inclusive plan? We'd like to avoid the hassle of carrying money all the time, but we also want to stay away from the "big building with 600 rooms" type of setting.

As I mentioned in my first post, Tahiti would be perfect if it wasn't for the cost. We LOVE the overwater bungalow concepts, and we love the way the resorts are set up to reflect culture while offering the best in amenities and design.

Ideally, I'm looking for a place that my fiancee can walk into and say wow...preferrably at the front desk, in the room, at the pool, at dinner and then at the beach, where we'll be snorkelling.

How's that for a tall order? Any and all suggestion on peoples favourite distinctive resorts are welcome....

Try Aruba. It's outside the hurrican belt and the weather is always the same with a nice cool breeze all the time. The island is so romantic and unlike any other island you'll find. I've been 2 times in the last year and I'm already wanting to go back! The people are friendly. The resorts are nice (Divi Aruba is the best). You can rent a jeep an go off-roading on sand dunes. Unbelievable island!

Try Barbados it is outside the hurricane belt and far more romantic and tropical than Aruba.

Actually, while it's true that most hurricanes strike in the months of September-October, the official season begins in July. Now, I've traveled in the Caribbean almost exclusively in the months of June-November and never had any weather troubles, but that's more a matter of luck, I think.

Have you considered a private island retreat for your honeymoon? They're not quite as luxurious as the Cap Julucas of the world (and they aren't known for their nightlife), but they offer their own brand of cache. For one thing, most of them offer an all-inclusive policy because it's just impractical to go anyplace else. For another thing, they're smaller and more intimate, which means you won't be fighting the "600-room" scenario. And best of all, they're ultra-private, which is always a good thing on a honeymoon. :)

My favorite is Petit St. Vincent in the Grenadines(www.psvresort.com), which is probably the most private. There's also Palm Island in the Grenadines (www.palmislandresorts.com).

They are pricy (not as much as Tahiti, but still a lot of money), but one can usually find good package deals at www.luxurylink.com. There are also a few private island resorts in the British Virgins--Peter Island and Guana Island, which also have packages on luxurylink.com.

There's also Young Island, right off the coast of St. Vincent, which offers all of the privacy and cache of a private island, but with all of the convenience and night life of St. VIncent, just a 10 minute boat ride away. (Stays at Young Island give you free unlimited ferry transfers to and from the mainland.)

A relatively new resort opened on Grenada called La Luna (www.laluna.com) and it's been getting fantastic reviews. They offer a nice MAP package in a private cottage with a private plunge pool. Considered very hip and sexy by an international crowd (it's run by an Italian couple), the website looks gorgeous and a friend of mine stayed there for his honeymoon last summer and loved it.

However, if you really want a "Wow" factor from your fiancee, try Cap Juluca on Anguilla. I've got plans to go this summer and I can't wait. (look for packages at www.luxurylink.com). I think it may be the most beautiful resort I've ever seen. Anguilla is not beautiful, but it's beaches, water, and people are.

HOpe this helps. feel free to write with any questions. would love to hear what you decide.

You should consider St. Croix. It is a wonderful place to get married. The officila Hurricane season runs from June thru November, however, I think there has been only one hurricane to hit St. Croix outside of September and that was a freak storm in November. Look at www.villadawn.com and www.caribbeandreamvilla.com

i went to aruba on sept 1 2001 for my honeymoon. it was absolutley fabulous. I have been to four different places down there and aruba was my favorite. The main reason we had chosen that place was due to the fact it is ouside the hurricane belt. Hurricane season acutally starts in late june early july however is not in full swing until August through November. Just to let you know I had booked a trip for St. Martin in August and the resort i booked with was closed. I was never told by the travel agent. However i had emailed the resort to find out what the weather would be like and they advised me they were not even open. So that is my littl input have a blast! Jim
