I hope to start traveling extensively in the Caribbean within the next year.

I am a native English speaker and am proficient in American Sign Language (ASL).

However, I've been wanting to learn another language or two and was wondering if any had suggestions on one that would be useful throughout most of the Caribbean?

I know most people can get by just fine with English, but would learning Spanish or even French be any useful?

It depends on where you are traveling to. If you are going to Mexico or Dominican Republic, Spanish would be helpful (though certainly not necessary). French is certainly spoken on some islands but again not necessary for getting around as a tourist.
