Am a 73 yr old with 59 yr old lady friend looking for an inexpensive package, can be remote if nice natural surroundings, want a good beach and snorkling. Food may be simple, with lots of fruit and vegetables. Thinking of spending 10 days. I say "package" to keep the cost down, under $2k total. I will be coming from Denver and she from Manchester NH. Other interests of ours are biking, anthropology, sociology, sea kayaking.

Try Cooper Island off Tortola, they have ad in CTL.Snorkeling is very good. Ginny Evans from Cincinnatti had a cottage down the beach we stayed at, nice quiet place. Cooper Island resort could probably get you in touch. Renting a house is lo bucks, but you have to pack in food (frozen) stock up on perishables before lving Tortola. a snorkeling "floater jacket" helps alot. Dave

I might have just the thing for you. My wife and I own a vacation club membership in Playa Del Carmen (south of Cancun 45 minutes). There are two resorts in this area to choose from; the Viva Maya and the Viva Azteca. Playa Del Carmen is also known as the Mayan Riveria for it Euro-culture and beautiful beaches. There is some of the best snorkeling in the Caribbean available to you there and in neighboring Cozumel.
My wife just gave birth to our first-born, son last fall and therefore we will not be going out of the country this year. We have two weeks per year that we use. I still have one available for rental this year. The other week has been rented to a gentleman from Florida. The cost is $1075.00 for two people (airfare is not included), and this includes an ocean front room, all your meals, drinks ( both alcoholic and non-alcoholic), & tips. An air conditioned Shuttle Van can also be arranged to pick you up at the airport and take you to the resort. He will even stop for a beer and let you sight see if you desire.
The snorkeling is fantastic. Just north of Playa their is a public beach that has an offshore reef which runs along the cost. This is reachable by from the beach with a short swim. There is also great snorkeling down south of the resort at Xel-Ha ( an eco park, worth the trip), and then off Cozumel, WOW. This is some of the best snorkeling period! Just ask anyone who dives. Cozumel is just a ferry ride from Playa Del Carmen and makes a great day trip. The snorkeling in Cozumel can be arranged with a tour utilizing a catamaran that visits multiple reefs and is supervised. We have done this and it is a great way to see different reef systems in one day. You can also rent a car or take a taxi and find many public beaches that are noted for the offshore snorkeling.
If you are interested and have any questions please get back to me and I will answer any question you might have. I can also send some pictures that show different things you might be interested in or have questions about.

I am getting a pretty good deal from the ultra all-inclusive Sandals resort in St. Lucia. The airfare is what you will need to watch as it is rising because of the gas prices.
